what is Curta Mechanical Calculator Simulator
A digital tribute to the legendary "Pepper Grinder" mechanical calculator invented by Curt Herzstark. This simulator replicates the unique stepped-drum mechanism, allowing you to perform addition, subtraction, and multiplication using the iconic crank-and-slider interface.
How to use Curta Mechanical Calculator Simulator?
Set the Input Number
Use the sliders on the main carriage (the upper part) to set your desired number. Each slider corresponds to a digit place (units, tens, hundreds, etc.). Slide the indicator to the digit you wish to input for that column.
Select the Operation
Use the operation lever on the side of the simulator to choose between addition/multiplication (+) or subtraction (-). For multiplication, you will perform multiple cranks.
Perform the Calculation
Pull the main crank handle clockwise for a full rotation to execute the operation. For subtraction, ensure the operation lever is set to (-). For multiplication, you may need to shift the carriage and perform multiple cranks based on the multiplier digits.
Read the Result
The result is displayed in the result register windows, typically located on the top of the simulator. The counter register may show the multiplier or count of operations performed.
Clear the Registers
To reset the calculator for a new calculation, use the clearing mechanisms. Turn the small crank on the side of the result register to zero it out. Slide the main carriage all the way to the right or left to reset the input sliders to zero.
